I was at Manic Coffee today, at College and Bathurst, looking over a lesson plan and activity guide and witnessed a funny altercation between a father and his 9 or so year old son.
They were just sitting down, the father with his mug of coffee and the son with a cookie on a plate, when the father reached out and broke off a piece of cookie. The son was livid and admonished his father for taking “too big a piece of my cookie”. The father reached out again . The son burst into tears, throwing a greedy tantrum, crying out “DAD. You have coffee. That’s MY COOKIE. It’s not fair!!!!” wailed some more, and tearfully took off with his cookie to eat protectively away from his father in the cafe, not unlike a cat or dog might. The dad just laughed. As did I.
After a few minutes of standing by the counter and finishing his treat, the young boy came back, tears dried, and proceeded to tell his father in a no nonsense manner to not “ever do that again. That was my cookie and I don’t like sharing.” And sat down as the father just shook his head slightly and smiled.
